I received with shock the death of Pa Abraham Michael Joseph Diri, the father of my friend and brother – Douye Diri, the Governor of Bayelsa State. Pa Abraham, who died on Sunday, February 12, at the age of 88, was a retired headmaster, a disciplinarian, a devout Christian, and a firm but humble lover of humanity.
While I share in the pain that the Diri family would be passing through, I take solace in the fact that a man is not really dead while his name is being spoken. Pa Abraham will always remain with us as long as humanity exists.
To governor Douye Diri, I know that there are no words enough to ease your pain, but just know that you have my deepest sympathy and unwavering support for you to find the courage to bear the loss and peace to accept it as an act of God.
Please accept the sincere condolences of my wife and I, and those of the good people of Kaduna South senatorial district over your loss. As a worthy friend of Southern Kaduna who has identified with us even before becoming a governor, my earnest prayer is for God to console you and the family in His own special way.
Again, my sincere condolence, and may the soul of Pa Abraham rest in peace with the Lord.
